Haines Borough Assembly members are scheduled to consider a proposal from manager Mark Earnest to extend his contract through June 2014 at Tuesday’s assembly meeting.

Assembly member Joanne Waterman made an unsuccessful motion for the renewal at an assembly meeting last month, after Earnest informed assembly members he’d changed his mind about leaving the job at the end of June 2013 and was seeking the extension.

Earnest is paid $108,000 annually.

Asked what he considered his achievements in an Oct. 15 interview, Earnest cited borough projects including local road improvements, boat harbor improvements and planned rebuilding of the Port Chilkoot Dock trestle.

“To get projects into design and construction phase requires a tremendous amount of work and coordination from this office,” he said.

He also cited completion of the borough comprehensive plan and addressing a backlog of deferred maintenance on borough equipment and facilities.
