I know both of the candidates for the upcoming House District 34 election and I like them both. They offer very different visions of our future and on one important issue they take different stands. Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell’s proposed tax cut for oil companies, estimated at $2 billion annually, will have significant impact on our state’s fiscal well-being.
Parnell’s tax cut shifts about 17 percent of the State of Alaska’s budget to oil companies without any commitment for increased production. Bill Thomas voted for the tax cut. It’s important to bring home projects for Haines, but as Jonathan points out, you can’t bring home the bacon if you give away the pig. For this reason, among many others, I support Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins for the District 34 seat.
