Auditions for Lynn Canal Community Players’ production of “Oklahoma” will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday and noon Wednesday at the Chilkat Center.
People wishing to be in the cast, chorus, orchestra or production crew should make a showing Tuesday or Wednesday, said Annette Smith, secretary-treasurer of LCCP.
Prospective cast members should come prepared to sing a song, preferably on from the show.
The Rogers and Hammerstein classic will showcase a range of local talent and feature a spirited theme, Smith said. “Oklahoma’ is like apple pie. It’s real, all-American story. If you get involved in this show, you’ll have a song in your heart the rest of the winter.”
Elise Lammers and Mark Sebens will co-direct the show, a love story set in a Western Indian territory at the turn of the 20th century, amid a rivalry between farmers and cowboys.
Sebens directed “South Pacific” in 2010 and Lammers has directed Summer Youth Theater Conservatory productions the last three years.
“Directing adults in a play production will be a new experience for me,” Lammers said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
Debra Schnabel will again conduct the orchestra, Diana Pyle will direct the chorus, and Nancy Nash will serve as vocal coach.
Rehearsals will begin the last week of August. Performances will be October 5-7.
LCCP also hopes to do a play in the new year, as well as a holiday show. “We’re not dead in the water after October,” Smith said.
