A bus carrying 53 Amish and Mennonite tourists from seven states and Canada stopped at Third Avenue and Main Street in Haines in mid-July during a four-week tour. “They don’t fly, so I’m filling a little niche,” said Lester Burkholder, a tour guide from Fredericksburg, Pa. who makes one such trip each year. The bus tour was “the trip of a lifetime,” said passenger Jacob Beiler of Narvon, Pa. Passengers, who bought ice cream and looked in stores on Main Street, shied away from a photographer’s camera.
