An out-of-state caller reported concern about her son’s welfare because he was supposed to be staying in Haines for the night, but was not responding to phone calls. The son eventually called from Haines Junction.
Sunday, Feb. 13
A caller reported concern about a person living in their vehicle. An officer responded, and the person had been staying in the area because it was an Internet hotspot downtown.
A caller reported a young black bear alongside 14 Mile Haines Highway that appeared to be lost. An officer and state troopers responded, but the bear was not found.
An officer found a vehicle in the ditch at 5 Mile Haines Highway and contacted the owner to verify they were all right after having an accident.
A caller reported people sledding down Third Avenue. An officer responded, but didn’t see any sledding.
A caller reported a suspicious vehicle that had been camping out on a residential road on the west side of town. An officer responded and found the vehicle, but not the person.

A caller reported a large rock in the center of the road on Lutak.

A person reported another person driving without a license.
An officer reported an unauthorized bonfire on Small Tracts Road and advised the people of burn permit rules and regulations.
Wednesday, Feb. 9
A caller reported a person driving while intoxicated, and an officer responded and arrested the person for driving under the influence.
A caller reported someone stole cash out of their vehicle while it was parked on Main Street.
An officer and tow truck responded when a caller reported their vehicle ran off the road on Lutak and said the vehicle was unable to be moved because of tire damage.
Tuesday, Feb. 8
DOT was advised and responded to a report that Beach Road near Portage Cove campground was a solid sheet of ice.
Troopers and a state park ranger assisted officers in the arrest of a person who had a warrant in Oregon.
A caller reported a person threatened to bash another person’s vehicle. An officer responded and calmed the person down.
There were 12 medical calls.
