A business reported a tour bus blocking their driveway and an alley. The bus was moved.

A caller reported water flooding Haines Highway at 8.5 Mile. State road crews and troopers were advised.

A caller reported foam around their neighbor’s hot tub had caught fire.

A caller reported a cow moose with two calves walking near the harbor, and people trying to approach. An officer responded and the moose left.

Sunday, May 29

A caller reported a family member had been asked to leave a bar due to a high level of intoxication, and they had not heard from them since.

An officer determined firecrackers were the cause of a call about multiple shots near Small Tracts Road.

A caller who locked keys inside a car was advised to contact a business.

A resident inquired about filing harassment charges. An officer initiated a case.

Forestry officials were advised of possible illegal cutting on Kelsall Road.

Fireworks and loud music were reported on Small Tracts Road and the caller wanted to know about the noise ordinance. An officer issued a citation for discharging fireworks in town limits.

An officer responded to a call that cars parked at Highland Estates were blocking the right-of-way.

Saturday, May 28

A case was initiated after the men’s room at the Gateway Building was vandalized and a mirror was broken.

A person reported children at the school playground without parents. An officer responded and parents picked up their children.

People were reported climbing on heavy equipment between the police station and bald eagle foundation, apparently taking pictures.

A caller reported heavy equipment at Tlingit Park had been climbed on without permission.

A caller was concerned about a downtown bar patron who was highly intoxicated and passing out. An officer responded and found the person’s friends were taking the patron back to a tent.

Friday, May 27

A caller reported loud music at Fourth Avenue and Union Street. An officer responded and asked the neighbor to turn down the music.

A caller reported a vehicle being driven recklessly on Comstock Road and North Sawmill Road. An officer responded and found the vehicle parked at a residence.

The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel reported someone broke into their facility during the night and stole two dogs. The dogs were located later that day.

A caller reported walking too close to a cow moose on Second Avenue on the previous evening.

A borough worker reported a toilet at Tlingit Park had been damaged.

A Deishu Drive caller reported a vehicle parked outside her apartment and said she would like it moved because she could not walk around her apartment without the driver seeing her. An officer responded.

Thursday, May 26

An officer responded to a report of a vehicle parked in bus parking at the cruise ship dock.

A caller reported a vehicle parked on private property downtown. The car owner called police to say they moved it.

A caller reported vehicles blocking Young Road. An officer determined the vehicles were not blocking traffic.

A caller reported teenagers skateboarding on the new blacktop at the cruise ship dock. An officer told the juveniles to stop skateboarding.

Wednesday, May 25

A person said their dog had been attacked by a moose near the police station. The dog had been hit once by the moose in the hip and was not bleeding or limping.

Callers reported an abandoned bear cub at Lutak. The cub later was captured and euthanized.

A case was initiated after a downtown storage unit was burglarized, fire extinguishers had been discharged and vehicles damaged.

A Fort Seward business reported someone had gotten into their building during the night, but nothing appeared missing.

A caller reported unsafe driving conditions on Beach Road next to the Port Chilkoot Dock and suggested flaggers be posted.

Tuesday, May 24

A caller reported two abandoned vehicles on their property on the west side. An officer found the owners and told them the vehicles needed to be moved.

A caller reported a large amount of white smoke coming from the Battery Point area. A fireman responded and found it was a controlled burn.

A caller downtown reported a person had just driven away intoxicated. An officer responded and located the vehicle at home. No charges were filed.

A caller reported a speeding vehicle on Mount Riley Road. The caller stated when he tried to make contact with the driver, he was flipped off. An officer responded and gave the driver a warning.

There were 35 medical calls and six calls about dogs.
