John S. HagenVolunteer Adam Balloch paints the orca totem in front of the Haines Borough firehall this week. The orca is the official seal of the borough. The carving was created in the late 1970s by Alaska Indian Arts carvers Charlie Jimmie Sr. and Chauncey Jacobs. Balloch’s work is sponsored by his employer, Fogcutter Bar. Alaska Indian Arts donated paint. John S. HagenLiz Burton holds a golden-crowned sparrow she had just pulled from a net at the head of Mud Bay during bird-banding training sessions sponsored by the Ts’ats’ee Bird Observatory.
