While some in or behind the “political arena” may want to bring the recall issue down into the realm of personalities and political bickering, I wish to reiterate that the recall involves Daymond Hoffman and Joanne Waterman and their actions taken on the 13th of June 2011. As Alaska Statute 29.26.240 addressing the recall requires “particularity” so should our discussion deal with the simple fact that the two people listed on the recall ballot of Oct. 4 knowingly violated the borough law. I don’t know their motivation. I don’t believe them to be bad people. I do believe they should not be lawmaking members of our borough government. Whomever replaces them is the responsibility of the voters and candidates. My motivation was not to make way for selected candidates but to put the assembly on notice that the people expect their elected officials to execute their responsibilities in an ethical and legal manner.
