The Lynn Canal Community Players have several events coming up for folks wanting to participate in – or just watch – some theatrical comedy.
The group is having a “play reading party” on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Sheldon Museum for anyone interested in directing, acting or helping out with productions.
The last week of October the group is welcoming the Denali Drama Troupe from Talkeetna for an improv workshop. The troupe will work with students and adults. An improv production will be held at the end of the week.
“It’s for anybody interested in honing their acting skills and having some fun on stage,” said Annette Smith, secretary and treasurer of the Lynn Canal Community Players.
Specific dates for the workshop and production are still being finalized, she said.
Lynn Canal Community Players is having its annual membership meeting and potluck on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. at the Chilkat Center lobby to plan the year’s productions and elect officers. Anyone who has been part of a production in the past or is interested in doing theater with the group is welcome to attend. Bring a dish to share.
Planning for the holidays is already underway and the group needs acts for the second annual Holly Jolly Christmas Follies show scheduled for Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. at the Chilkat Center.
“We chose a date closer to Christmas because our idea was after school is out and kids come home from college and families are gathering, it’s nice to have something going on in Haines,” Smith said.
The community players also is looking ahead to the new year. Smith said the group is considering a series of five “Kick ass plays for women,” which may consist of an evening of one-act plays and also a possible mystery dinner theater in the third week of April.
Anyone interested in participating in Lynn Canal Community Players is asked to contact Jerrie Clarke at the Sheldon Museum at 766-2366.
