A caller reported a rockslide in the northbound lane at 8.5 Mile Haines Highway.

Sunday, Sept. 4

A caller reported a possible fire across the canal. An officer responded and said the sight was a navigational beacon, not a fire.

A caller reported finding a cooler full of fish on Front Street and a bear was eating out of it.

A caller reported a brown and white horse running loose on Small Tracts Road.

Saturday, Sept. 3

An officer gave a person a ride home after a report that a fight was about to break out at a downtown bar.

A caller reported a fight outside a downtown apartment building. An officer responded and initiated an assault case.

Officers responded and a bear was shot and killed following multiple reports it broke into garages and eventually broke down a basement door. Callers saw the bear on Deishu Drive and FAA, Gruening, Major and Mud Bay roads before it was killed. The dead bear was put in the morgue until state troopers could take care of it.

Friday, Sept. 2

A caller reported a bear on Front Street.

An officer was requested at the school in response to a report of two students in possession of drug paraphernalia. No charges were filed.

A caller reported someone kicked their vehicle at 1 Mile Haines Highway and was threatening them. The caller was told to get an estimate of damage. A case was initiated.

A downtown business requested a courtesy transport for two people who were drunk.

Thursday, Sept. 1

A caller reported a bear near the school. School officials were told to advise students.

A caller reported a bear crossing Front Street.

A caller reported their dog chased a bear up a tree on Front Street. Officers responded and scared the bear into the woods.

Officers responded but did not locate a bear that tried to get into a garage on Front Street.

Wednesday, Aug. 31

A person requested help finding a place to stay for the night because they had been kicked out of the place they were staying.

Tuesday, Aug. 30

An officer found the speed radar trailer had been knocked over by a bear.

Public works reported picnic tables on Front Street repeatedly were knocked over a bank there.

A caller reported a deer carcass on Lutak Road.

A caller reported a bear on the track at the school. An officer responded and was unable to scare off the bear, but determined it was not a threat.

A caller reported a reckless driver who did not stop for a pedestrian in the crosswalk at Second Avenue and Main Street.

A person was advised to move their vehicle following the report of a parking violation on Main Street.

A caller reported vandalism at their Fourth Avenue home, and police initiated a case.

A caller reported a person urinating off a sidewalk. An officer responded and determined the person was able to care for himself but apparently was intoxicated. The same person was reported drinking in public in front of a downtown business. An officer responded and advised the man to go home and stay there for the night. The man then was taken into protective custody following the report of a fight outside an apartment building.

The school reported a bear had walked into the woods in front of the school.

A caller reported a bear walking from the Fish and Game building toward the school.

A person reported a bear crossing the street at Second Avenue and heading toward the Senior Center.

A caller reported people walking by a downtown campground were creating a disturbance and letting their dogs defecate on the property. An officer responded and initiated a case.

There were 15 medical calls and six calls about dogs.
