The candidate filing period for the Haines Borough’s October municipal election closes Friday.
As of Wednesday morning, July 20, four candidates had been certified to run for office: John Brower, Stephanie Scott and incumbent Mayor Jan Hill in the mayoral race and incumbent Jerry Lapp for the Haines Borough Assembly. The filing period opened July 11.
Information on additional filers was unavailable this week because borough clerk Julie Cozzi was out of the office.
When reached by phone, Anne Marie Palmieri of the Haines Borough School District’s board of education said she had filed for re-election, and fellow board incumbent Stacie Turner said she would not run.
school board incumbent Brian Clay and assembly incumbent Scott Rossman could not be reached for comment by press time Wednesday.
The assembly also has an opening for a seat vacated by Greg Goodman following a Juneau Superior Court ruling.
Candidate filing packets are available at the borough office or online at http://www.hainesborough.us.
