The Haines swimming pool re-opened Monday morning, and guests can again enjoy a hot shower before starting their laps.

Patricia Peters, pool manager, said icy-cold water from the showers prompted the pool to close last week.

“(The problem) was a part in the mixer valve that mixes the cold and hot water for the showers and, apparently, it had to be fabricated,” Peters said. “Considering it was Wednesday when it happened and we’re opening today (June 27), that’s pretty good, I think.”

She said the closure was a matter of cleanliness.

“The pool itself had hot water, because it has a separate heating element,” Peters said. “Before you go swimming, you should take a cleansing shower, and then afterwards, of course, you need to take a shower, too. With ice-cold water, people tend to sprinkle themselves instead of getting a full, cleansing shower.”

The pool in recent months also has closed due to leaks in the sand filter, which Peters said is set to be replaced in fiscal year 2012.

Swimming lesson application forms are available at the pool this summer. The facility will be closed on the Fourth of July.
