A retail seafood center is open at Haines Packing Co., the cannery at Letnikof Cove. Jill Atlas said people would often come to the cannery looking to buy retail fish, so the cannery decided to open a separate space to sell products. The shop sells fresh fish and crab when available and smoked salmon, salmon jerky and minced salmon. The shop is attached to the cannery; shoppers just need to follow the signage to find it.
Atlas is also organizing occasional shipments of produce from Whole Foods in Washington State that will be available for sale in the store. The partnership is part of an agreement that ships out local, live crabs to Whole Foods. Atlas takes orders for produce and also buys extra to have on hand at the store a few days a week.
This is also the second year Atlas has been operating her gift shop, Some Things Fishy? The shop sells homemade crafts and quilts. The cannery also now has a self-guided walking tour. Maps are available at the shops and cannery.
