ere recently awarded Community Arts Development Grants from the Alaska State Council on the Arts. The Jilkaat Kwaan Heritage Center in Klukwan received $4,000 for a totem carving workshop. The Southeast Alaska State Fair received $3,000 for fair entertainment.
The grants are designed to assist small, nonprofit Alaska organizations in developing art programs in underserved areas of the state, or underserved projects. According to the council, Community Arts Development grants “are designed to stimulate grassroots arts activity and to encourage public interest and participation in the arts throughout Alaska.”
The council is funded by the Alaska State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
