Letters of interest for an interim appointment to the Haines Borough Assembly are due at the borough office by 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 8.

The assembly has scheduled a special meeting 6 p.m. Monday, June 13, to make the appointment to the assembly seat Greg Goodman vacated last month following a Juneau Superior Court ruling that he did not meet borough residency requirements.

The appointee will serve until the October municipal election, when the winning candidate for the seat will earn a term through October 2013.

Both Karen Hess, who successfully challenged Goodman’s candidacy, and Norm Smith, whom Goodman replaced on the assembly last October, have submitted letters of interest. As of press time Wednesday, the borough also had letters from John Brower, Jono Greene and Wayne Hirsch.

Borough clerk Julie Cozzi said hand-delivered, mailed, faxed and e-mailed letters all are acceptable for the opening.
