Acting on the results of a blood-alcohol test obtained through a search warrant, Alaska State Troopers have charged a Haines woman with driving under the influence during a cliffside crash at 9 Mile Haines Highway April 26.
Trooper Josh Bentz said an earlier finding Hicks wasn’t intoxicated at the time of the crash was based on a miscommunication with medical clinic staff.
Records obtained by the troopers May 17 indicate Katherine L. Hicks, 29, had a blood-alcohol level of .117 percent at the time of the crash, according to court documents.
Hicks told investigators she hadn’t consumed alcohol before the crash and didn’t know what caused her car to plunge off a steep driveway. A Haines court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 9.
