The Takshanuk Watershed Council would like to thank the 22 volunteers that came out to make the first annual Chilkat River Clean-up a success!  The team pulled 10 derelict gillnets from the river, 487 aluminum cans, 10 pounds of plastic, 60 pounds of glass, 400 pounds of miscellaneous metals and television sets, and a total of 23 bags of trash. TWC is especially grateful to: Chilkat Guides for providing a raft, guide, and bus for the trip; River Adventures for the use of their facility; Mountain Market for their tasty lunches; the Chilkoot Indian Association for the jet-boat; and the Department of Fish and Game for information about the river and possible locations of gillnets. Thanks to the Haines Bike Club for pitching in. Come out next year and join the fun! There is nothing better than floating down the river with your favorite beverage while cleaning up and making a difference! This effort was supported by the Center for Alaska Coastal Studies and NOAA.
