In light of events in Wisconsin, Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Algeria, Libya and now Morocco, we celebrate the courage of those who stand peacefully and publicly for democracy, and for what they believe to be in the best interests of their people. We also applaud the soldiers who refused to fire on their own people. Too frequently, people resort to violence to express their frustration and desperation. It is inspiring to watch people show both courage and restraint when speaking to power. Change is often slow. We hope they can continue to resolve issues peacefully. We encourage those in power to listen to the people and work peaceably toward changes that are fair, considerate of the poor and disenfranchised, and truly in the interest of their societies.
