here is a saying in Africa that “how long you live is measured by how many friends you have.” That was quite evident at the Elks Lodge this past Sunday afternoon for Pete’s appreciation dinner, a full house. We were humbled that you would come out on a Sunday afternoon and spend it with us. The Elks Lodge and Haines firemen outdid themselves with the dinner. It was delicious. Thanks to chefs Chip Strong and Mike Binkie; kitchen crew Larry Jurgeleit, Michael Binkie, Rodney from Yakutat, who made the special trip here to surprise Pete (You are great.); Dick Comerford and James, Ashley, Hudson and Gable Sage. If I have forgotten anyone, please forgive me. We enjoyed the stories and the attempted “roast” by Bud Barber (maybe next time Bud) and Tom Morphet’s eloquence in describing Pete to a tee; he is, indeed, a gentleman. We are traveling this week to Seattle. Pete had his infusion on Tuesday in Juneau and everything went great. We are praying that the chemotherapy is doing what it is supposed be doing and that we will come home still on the same protocol, meaning that the tumor marker has indeed stabilized, or has gone down. We hope to be home by the middle of next week. We will continue to face our past without regret, handle our present with confidence and most important, prepare for the future without fear. We continue to live outside the box. Thank you everyone. We will see you soon.

Pete and Diana Lapham
