“Community Matters,” a public forum and facilitated discussion on strengthening the community will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 at the public library.
Panelists will include community volunteers, and members of tribes, non-profits and other organizations who will talk about their service to the community and what has motivated them, said event organizer Jolanta Ryan.
Speakers also will address community resources and how to capitalize and build on those.
The upshot of the program aims at identifying unmet needs in the community, and ways to fill them. “We’ll see where it goes. We’re hoping it leads to further discussions. This will be a starting point,” Ryan said.
The discussion is part of the public library’s “Fingerprints Grant,” a two-year allocation from the Institute of Library and Museum Sciences that funds library programs including after-school activities, technology training, teen activities and cultural efforts.
“This is the first time we’ve done this. We’re hoping to have a nice discussion,” Ryan said. Refreshments will be served.
