Tourism benefits everyone in Haines, directly or indirectly. The same could be said for recycling, animal control, senior, mental health, or hospice services as well as a myriad of other services provided by Haines’ nonprofits. It is time for tourism promotion to be run by those most affected and interested, not an already overtaxed borough manager and assembly. As an important and valuable non-profit, they would be in line for borough dollars, just like the other many worthy causes supported by the Haines Borough. It is time to end this entitlement and allow tourism promotion to function on an equal footing with the many other services provided in Haines.
