A recent letter suggested that Beau Bradley hadn’t been a resident in Haines long enough to be an assembly member.  At the same time, Haines is begging young people to come, stay and live here, contribute to the economy and so on.  Why shouldn’t such young people not also want to help solve Haines’ many problems?  No doubt as a local business owner Mr. Bradley has already gotten a feel for what needs work.

And here’s the thing:  the decisions made now by the borough assembly aren’t going to matter a lot to me and my age group in 10 or 20 years.  We’ll all be dead.  But they will matter a lot to the people in Beau Bradley’s age group. They’re the ones who will be stuck paying off all these million dollar bonds I’m hearing about.

Of course the younger residents should be on the assembly. They need to be making the decisions that they are going to be living with.  And if that means on the job learning, well so be it. That’s what all us Moms did back in the day, we learned on the job.  I’m sure Beau Bradley will do just fine.

Thanks
