We’re rolling out some updates to our website this week and we think you’re going to notice the difference.
The big thing you’ll see is that our paywall has changed. Chilkat Valley News staff have been listening to your concerns about difficulties logging in and understanding how to subscribe. And, our tech provider – The Paywall Project – has heard them too.
They’ve built a new plugin from the ground up for local news publishers and I’m really excited to see how it works for us here. I won’t bore you with the technical details, but please have patience as we learn how the new system works over the next few weeks.

In the meantime, the new paywall has some functions I think will make it easier for people to manage their accounts:
— You can update your email address, password, account name and more from a new dashboard.
— If you want to upgrade or downgrade your subscription, you’ll see exactly what you’ll be charged (or credited) before you confirm anything.
— Whether you’re renewing, updating your plan, or sending a gift subscription to a friend, the new checkout is fast and secure.
— Speaking of gift subscriptions, it makes it much easier to send one to a friend or someone you know who would love to stay connected to the Chilkat Valley.
— And, if you want to share your subscription with a household member or a colleague, we will easily set up group account options.
— And, if you’re a local business and want to grant paywall bypass access to your patrons, or a teacher/school administrator who wants to offer access in the classroom – we can do that too.
If you have any questions or problems with the new system, you can reach out to me directly via email at [email protected]
Thanks for reading, subscribing and helping us keep this independent local news business alive.
