The absence of the Letnikof Cove dock during the past year has been a great detriment to the public users of this vital facility, including subsistence, sport, and the commercial fishermen of our community. Having commercially-fished these waters for the past 37 years, the importance of this dock cannot be overstated.
To partially privatize a portion of a public dock for the benefit of a corporate enterprise is contrary to the interests of our boating community. Mooring large cruise ship vessels on a dock designed for much smaller boats is absurd. I am against giving up our public rights for that of a corporate enterprise and would encourage our borough representatives to deny the request from American Cruise Lines for moorage rights at Letnikof Cove.
