The scheduled arrival of the M/V Columbia to Haines has been delayed after an engine malfunction last week.
Haines ferry terminal manager Ryan Ackerman said Monday that a faulty wire triggered an automatic engine shutdown on the Columbia soon after it left Bellingham on Aug. 7. The wire was identified and the issue was resolved, Ackerman said, but the ferry remains behind schedule.
Instead of arriving in Haines at 10:15 p.m. Monday, the Columbia will now be arriving at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. It will not make its scheduled trip to Skagway, and will instead head south from Haines back towards Bellingham, where it is expected to arrive back on schedule.
No other ferries will be affected, Ackerman said. The M/V Hubbard will still arrive in Haines on Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. for its scheduled trip to Skagway. That overlaps with the Columbia’s new schedule, requiring some musical chairs; the Columbia will unload, but wait to load any passengers or cargo. Instead, it de-dock, and only load after the Hubbard leaves port.
