Alaska Airlines announced Sunday evening all of its flights, as well as those of its affiliate Horizon Air, are being grounded due to a software outage of an unspecified nature.
“At approximately 8 p.m. Pacific on Sunday (0300 GMT on Monday), Alaska Airlines experienced an IT outage that’s impacting our operations,” the airline noted in a prepared statement. “We requested a temporary, system-wide ground stop for Alaska and Horizon Air flights.”
The grounding affects more than 200 planes and “there will be residual impacts to our operation throughout the evening,” according to the airline.
A flight from Anchorage that took off at 7:45 p.m.
Alaska Airlines has flights scheduled to depart from Juneau International Airport to Anchorage at 9:45 p.m. and Sitka at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, and Seattle at 1:55 a.m. and 5 a.m. Monday, according to the website Flightradar24. Incoming flights from Anchorage and Seattle are also scheduled Sunday evening and early Monday morning.
Reuters reported Alaska Air Group-owned Hawaiian Airlines had some IT systems disrupted by a hack in June. The company is still determining the financial impact of the hack.
