Letter to the Editor

I’m writing in response to the recent CVN letter that characterized local citizens protesting Trump’s autocratic drift as “poor misinformed souls.”

I wonder if the writer also found Senator Murkowski “a misinformed soul” when she told constituents last week that Trump’s authoritarianism is real and frightening. As she explained, her lack of total obedience to Trump (i.e., political correctness) may well result in retaliation against Alaskans— our jobs and critical services.

Regarding the national debt, which the letter writer insists Musk is rescuing us from, I suggest some fact checking before projecting “misinformed” onto others. To begin with, which of our recent Presidents has actually overseen the largest increases in the nation’s debt? Clue: not Biden, but Donald Trump—who raised the debt $8 trillion.

The few billion that Musk has gathered up by arbitrarily closing down essential services for veterans, Natives, and seniors is not saving the average taxpayer one penny—it’s all going into funding a huge tax cut for Musk and his billionaire buddies. It’s no secret. The President and Republicans have already openly committed themselves to these tax breaks, which will add $4 trillion to our debt.

Additionally, there’s a major conflict of interest when the richest man in the world is given access to the data and budgets of agencies that oversee his businesses and numerous federal contracts—and to databases that contain our social security, IRS and other personal data.

Hmmm, am I misinformed, or does this sound like “deep state” version 2?
