We’ve subscribed to the CVN for three plus decades living in Haines. During that time period I can’t recall a single story written about how presidential rhetoric and policies have negatively impacted Haines. Yet last week, two of five CVN front page articles dealt with just that!
Even though he remained unnamed in those stories, Trump’s actions will likely result in more economic losses for Haines.
To me, “federal funding freeze” and “the tension of loss of Canadian neighbors” are only the beginning of serious, real-life impacts that will be felt in our town.
Right now, it seems the only power we can exercise is letting our Republican senators and representatives know our current displeasure about how things are going, and our fears of more of the same – or worse – to come.
