Roy Colter Clayton Jr.

Roy Colter Clayton, Jr., 67, a longtime resident of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away peacefully at Alaska Native Medical Center after a lengthy illness on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

Roy was born September 30, 1957, in Juneau, Alaska, to Roy Colter Clayton Sr. and Nora Enright Clayton Krake. He was raised in Haines, Alaska and graduated from Haines High School in 1975. After high school, he joined the Laborer’s Union, Local 942, and worked for many general contractors as a laborer in Haines, Juneau, and other towns in southeast Alaska. He also worked in Anchorage and on an oil rig on the North Slope. He was last employed by Nuna Contractors in 1994 working on the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, and while on vacation, he suffered an aneurysm followed by a stroke that left him paralyzed.

Roy is survived by his wife, Loretta Clayton, son Roy Colter Clayton III, daughter Desiree Montalbo, son Ryan Clayton (Margaret), 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his mother, Nora Krake, and three remaining siblings, Margie Clayton, Bonnie Zelter, Richard Clayton, and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Colter Clayton Sr., grandson, Galu Vala III, and brother-in-law, Peter Zelter.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
