I’d just like to clarify my support for borough staff.
In January, when issues arose about our former manager, I insisted on an evaluation and discussion, not termination. Later, at the end of the manager’s contract, I urged keeping the manager on as long as possible.
Further, I established an annual assembly planning session to smooth relations between the administration and assembly and to eliminate any uncertainty between the administration and staff about the assembly’s goals and direction.
When concerns arose this past fall about the clerk, I urged the assembly to pursue evaluation, not termination.
As an assemblyman and mayor, I have supported raises for staff on the premise that they be fair to all borough employees. After 14 months in the mayor’s office, I’ve come to realize that our administration is seriously understaffed. I am convinced that this is the cause of many of the public’s issues and complaints directed at our government.
Our staff is solid but it can’t get by on air and noodles. More manpower is needed.
