Maddox Rogers and JC Davis are back in Haines after a weekend of All State Honor Music Festival in Anchorage. Rogers said the two of them sent out their auditions about a month ago and were accepted shortly after. They flew Wednesday to Anchorage and began rehearsing with the 64 other choir students who also made the state choir. The concert was Saturday night.

Dozens crowded into the Harbor Bar for a Friday pool tournament that kicked off a weekend celebrating its 21st birthday under Mike Ward’s ownership. Ward, who had dinner with family and friends at the bar on Saturday night, has been spending a lot more time downtown in recent weeks as he develops a convenience store location in Caroline’s Closet on Main Street.

Nancy and Dwight Nash celebrated their 53rd anniversary on November 25, which was a Thanksgiving Day the year they got married. Nancy said the two got married in Portland, Oregon. After the ceremony Dwight’s brother drove the two of them South and the car blew up near Wonder, Oregon. So the three hitchhiked with the remnants of their wedding cake from Rose’s Bakery in Portland. They were picked up by a semi truck driver who let them sleep in the cab.
