Poor leadership and bad decisions are the legacy of this past year’s borough assembly. Two members are up for reelection. They were part of raising the mill rate. They caused our borough manager to quit. They drove out our borough clerk who stated in an April 11, 2024 CVN article: “I have never worked for a less transparent assembly or planning commission. I have seen so much backdoor dealings that I have not seen in my eight years with the borough.” This does not reflect leadership.
The most flagrant wound inflicted is the destruction of our Lutak freight/fuel dock repair. They inherited a 100%-funded plan and a contract for completion this fall. Instead of letting it happen, they threw monkey wrenches at every opportunity. Currently we have no repair, only a failing dock that could implode at any time, leaving us with no dock. They have presented no concrete design for a different dock; added delays that will likely cost the borough millions of dollars; are looking at a potential lawsuit from the contractor; and have negotiated with the contractor during multiple executive sessions where the public is not allowed to listen. Then, they blame everyone but themselves for the accumulated problems.
This is not leadership. This is not in the best interest of our community. We need change. Please vote for responsible, competent, experienced leaders who will listen and put the community first. Vote Richard Clement, Cheryl Stickler and Mark Smith for borough assembly and Jerry Lapp for planning commission.
