On behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska, I want to thank the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Alaska Community Foundation, for their continued generosity and support.
CVCF provided BBBS with a grant that made it possible for me to purchase activities for matches. I was able to stock (and re-stock) a tote at the school office for school-based matches and purchase a fly fishing rod for a youth who learned to tie flies but didn’t own a rod. I also purchased Legos and art kits for matches to provide interactive indoor activity options for matches over the winter months. I was able to provide an artistic match with watercolors, colored pencils and sketch books, too.
I recently hosted a pizza party with funds to provide a group activity for all matches to gather and celebrate together. We made 10 matches at Haines Elementary School in 2023, the only school-based program in the state of Alaska!
I was intentional in making sure that all CVCF funds were spent at local businesses. CVCF is an inspired community of givers investing in the future of a happy and healthy Chilkat Valley and it was important to me that BBBS honored that by keeping funds in Haines.
