I am writing to advocate for opening the gymnasiums at the school and the pool on Sundays and during Christmas break for the community to use and engage in healthy activities. The people of the community fund the school and pool through our taxes. Thus, they are an opportunity to utilize resources that are already built to promote wellness, build stronger social bonds and, at the end of the day, have some good, clean fun.
Physical activity is vital for being healthy. By opening the gymnasiums and pool on Sundays and over Christmas break, we would provide a space for people that is inclusive and accessible for individuals and families. One of my favorite memories of being a kid is when my parents took me to the YMCA in Cambridge, Ohio on Friday nights to do family night gym.
Opening the gym and pool on Sundays and Christmas break would encourage community engagement and foster a sense of unity, enhance social connections and promote a healthier atmosphere. Families could have quality time together. The young basketball players could practice and get better. The Dolphins could work out and young Dolphins could get started.
I strongly urge the school’s and the borough’s administrators to consider opening the gymnasiums at the school and the pool on Sundays.
It’s like we have a rec center already built. It would be amazing and healthy if we could use it on Sundays and during Christmas break when it’s otherwise just sitting there empty.
