Skeenyaa tlaa drums for children of the Klukwan School at the Mile 26 bridge during a water blessing ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 5. The event drew more than 100 people who braved steady rain. Organizer Lani Hotch said that while the event was a not intended as a protest, organizers and attendees had a political message. “It’s very gratifying to see this level of public participation in this event, because it shows that people do care in this community and don’t want to see it contaminated with possible mine tailings.”
