The Mayor position is particularly important as the Mayor appoints committee members and has a strong role, voice, and vote on the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve Advisory Council. Tom believes in working collaboratively with local tribal organizations and prefers to see a diversity of representation on local committees and commissions. I have found that even when we have different points of view at times, Tom is willing to listen, to hear, to understand, and explain respectfully his point of view. We will be well served by having Tom Morphet as our Mayor for the next three years.
I also favor Natalie Dawson, Kevin Forster and Craig Loomis as fresh voices on the assembly. They bring a depth of experience and professionalism that will benefit all of us.
Finally, the planning commission is in desperate need of seven new fresh faces who understand they are there to serve the public and the community, including Chilkoot Indian Association and the Chilkat Indian Village of Klukwan. I will be voting for seven fresh faces who will bring respectful listening to the planning commission. Patty Brown, Erika Merklin, Brian O’Riley, Derek Poinsette, Rachel Saitzyk, Eben Sargent, Dan Schultz.
