The community of Haines has a long tradition of tending to each other through hard times and good. As a relative newcomer to town (our family moved to Haines in 2020), I’ve loved watching this strong network of care in action. One quiet but powerful example is the annual Grief Support Group which Hospice of Haines has hosted each fall for more than 20 years.
Many residents have shared with me how much this six-week group meant to them while mourning a loss. Coming together with others in a safe space takes courage, but it leads to personal healing and even growth. As we prepare for the 22nd Grief Support Group, I would like to thank Hospice of Haines for its tireless commitment to supporting the community. I would also like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Liz Marantz-Falvey for her warm, wise mentorship and her many years nurturing compassion and healing in Haines.
