Takshanuk Watershed Council is pleased to announce a second successful year of providing winter outdoor education to students in the Chilkat Valley. This year we had record high participation with over 159 students learning about winter ecology, snow crystal formation, and the important role that snowpack plays in our watersheds. Students from Chilkat Valley Preschool, Headstart, Haines School K-6th and the entire Klukwan School participated in the program and had the opportunity to go snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. Thank you Brittany Dunbar from the Haines Avalanche Center for providing avalanche safety awareness, Liam Wirak-Cassidy for teaching cross-country skiing skills, Luck Dunbar and Rich Chapell for grooming the fairgrounds, and a extra huge thank you to Jim Stanford and Glen Scott for volunteering their time to groom the trails at 25 mile.
