Police are investigating a break-in at the Haines Senior Center that was reported on Thursday, Feb. 23, said police chief Heath Scott.
Police aren’t releasing additional details until a police report has been completed, which hadn’t been done by press time Wednesday. Meanwhile, Melissa Ganey said someone rummaged through her vehicle sometime between Wednesday, Feb. 22 and Sunday Feb. 26. Although her belongings were scattered across the passenger side seat and floor, nothing was stolen, she said. Her car was parked at the harbor parking lot.
“I didn’t have anything big in value in it, luckily,” Ganey said. “They emptied my middle console of everything, moved my seat forward. They left the bag of quarters and didn’t take the snacks. So, who knows what they were looking for. It makes you feel violated.”
A hatchet that Ganey said didn’t belong to her was also left on the front passenger seat.
Scott said police are following up on that incident and another recently reported on social media, a post that reported a garage break in.
