Rebel against the regime! Just say no to oil and mining in Alaska! I’ve listened to those voices, and it certainly sounds appealing to my rebellious nature. The message is clear – we will decimate our shared homeland if we continue our current direction. The future is bleak if we maintain our path of resource development, if I understand the message. Entire fish stocks will be obliterated, native peoples will lose their lifestyles, our air and water poisoned by our own greed. Do the rebels propose a replacement of the current regime that will support our schools, police and all the other government provided services? I can’t find a plan, can you? I did find lots of requests to fund their objectives, but what about the results of the outcome of these strategies?
We need a larger revolution, one that has a vision to provide what we need and does not compromise our appreciation of the natural rhythms of our planet. Until the rebels present a full picture of what life would be like under their priorities, we are stuck with the Alaska that we set up in the 1950’s. It’s been said before, but worth repeating – the time for change is now. Rebel against the regime!
