The first big snowstorm announced that winter has arrived! Big shout out to Paul Rogers, not only for his dedicated service on the assembly, but also for being the first volunteer of the 2022 season to plow the community parking lot at the Mosquito Lake Community Center. I am certain Gary, the school bus driver, and Craig with Community Waste Solutions especially appreciate your generous efforts. In fact, we all do! This facility continues to accomplish the goals set out in the Haines Borough Comprehensive Plan and that’s because we care. Snowplowing is a chore, but essential if assets and programs are to be maintained. There’s just no getting around it. We have a signup sheet on the entryway cork board to manage this volunteer effort. Here’s an incentive to donate your plowing services: special membership in our Tool Library. Just last week Chilkat Valley Community Foundation awarded $2,500 for a community log splitter. Thank you! Our next, most pressing tool is community snow removal equipment. Consider making a tax-deductible donation; our organization is now a 501(c)3 non-profit. Together let’s maintain this wonderful community asset which never fails to get the red lantern award for local tax-based funding. With these tough economic times, the Haines Borough needs you!
