Fairbanks author and Alaska Reads 2022 author Paul Greci will be at the Haines Public Library at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 16 to discuss his new young adult book “Surviving Bear Island.”

“His middle-grade adventure novel is not only the Junior Library Guild Selection and a Scholastic Reading Club pick, but also it is the 2022 Alaska Reads title,” said Holly Davis, the library’s children’s librarian.

Alaska Reads is a biennial statewide reading program that features a selected publication by a living Alaska author. Heather Lende’s “Find the Good” was selected for the 2020 Alaska Reads.

Surviving Bear Island is a story of 14-year-old Tom and his father who capsized in their kayak in Prince William Sound. The story details their 80-day struggle to survive after washing ashore an island with a substantial bear presence.

Greci is also the author of young adult adventure novels “Follow the River,” “In the Wild Lands,” and “Hostile Territory.”
