A gourmet dinner to benefit a tool lending library at Mosquito Lake School and Community Center will be held Sunday 5 p.m. at the center.
The event will include a dessert auction, live music and a bonfire.
Erica Merklin, a board member of Friends of the Mosquito Lake School and Community Center, said tool libraries have been launched all over the world. The mission of the effort is to “encourage community sharing and reduce financial barriers to a successful rural lifestyle.”
The library would focus on “needed but seldom used tools” such as log-splitters, large ladders, food dehydrators, steam juicers, and chimney-cleaning tools. A membership fee is envisioned to help pay for maintenance and upkeep on tools.
Merklin’s group is seeking donations of working tools as well as cash to buy new tools.
Besides reducing the ecological footprint, tool libraries promote a sense of community and connection, she said.
Chef Travis Kukull is catering the meal that will include Four Winds Farm vegetable paella, roasted carrot salad, grilled naan and gjetsost cheesecake.
The meal is offered on a sliding scale of $30 to $60 per person and $100 for a family of four. Reservations must be made online at [email protected]. Only 50 tickets are available for the meal, but everyone is invited to a live music party starting at 6:30 p.m.
