Our David Simmons weekend has come to a close, and we are left with our greening landslide, a monumental tombstone, for two beloved young community leaders, and a magnificent memorial table with benches on Picture Point for David and Jennae. Thank you Sylvia Heinz and John Carlson and the high school shop class.

I have been overly thanked for spearheading these events. It was a true Haines team effort complete with generous donations: sockeye from Harry Rietze, delicious sourdough bread from Cambria, pastries from the Chilkat Bakery and coffee from Mountain Market. As well as too many volunteers to name who hosted David’s friends from Europe, loaned cars, did set up and clean up and brought yummy potluck dishes. We could not have done this event without substantial contributions from the Olerud, Jacobson and Rietze families.

Special thanks goes to Caroline Hankins of Caroline Rose Events who worked all year with me helping put this weekend together.

And if you are missing a potluck container, there is a box outside of Harriett Hall with leftover dishes in it.

I am proud to be a member of a community known for its hospitality and warmth.
