Garrett Montgomery won the first-ever Fourth of July Harbor to Harbor Mountain Run, overcoming nine miles from Letnikof Cove, up Mount Riley and down to the downtown boat harbor in about an hour and a half.

Haines Huts and Trails sponsored the event. A total of 16 racers included people from Anchorage, Virginia, Georgia, California, Texas and Norway. The course’s elevation gain totaled 2,030 feet.

There was not a Mount Ripinsky run this year.

Dawn Gillis placed first among women with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes.

At 10 years old, Charlie Blood was the race’s youngest finisher.
