Haines Borough residents are now eligible to apply for science education lessons to be held June 19-25 as part of the Chilkat Valley Teacher Institute for Place-Based Science.

“While originally designed to provide information and inspiration for teachers to engage students in learning and applying science and engineering standards and cultural connections through phenomena in their own area, now area residents are also invited to consider registering for one or more days of activities for $50 per day, whole or part,” institute organizer Patty Brown said. Transportation and lunch are provided.

Lessons range from “Plant and Lichen Forest Hike” to “identifying Rocks” to “STEM Tools and Skills for Natural Resource Science.”

The deadline to register is June 18. Local school teachers and college students pursuing degrees in education are eligible to register for the whole week for free, sponsored by Chilkat Valley Community Foundation.
