Matt, Lily, Hannah, and Haley Boron reunited for the first time in six months on the Big Island of Hawaii. Hannah and Haley, 2021 Haines High School graduates, have been busy in college and haven’t been able to visit their parents since Christmas. Hannah is studying to be a doctor at the University of Alaska Anchorage and Haley is attending the Air Force Academy. Matt, Lily, and Hannah met up with Haley in Seattle. “It feels great to reunite with Haley,” said Hannah. “I’m so proud to see how strong she’s become.” After their vacation in Hawaii, Haley will head back to Colorado to do combat survival training and parachuting training.
Arik Miller, Leo Wald, and Dalton Henry are currently biking from Dawson City, Canada to Haines. The trio started their adventure in Inuvik, Canada on May 27. They then biked to Tuktoyaktuk, Canada, and headed down the Dempster Highway. However, the highway was closed due to flooding. The trio then headed back to Inuvik and caught a flight to Dawson City, Canada. They then made the long journey to Haines Junction. They plan to rest in Haines Junction for a few days and return to Haines on June 10. Mike’s Bikes and Boards is sponsoring their trip. The company gave the trio a drone to record the adventure and extra bike gear. The boys said they planned to do this trip when they were 21, but then decided they were ready to do it this summer. When the trip is finished, the boys will have biked close to 800 miles.
Little League Baseball kicked off on June 4. Ann and Steve Fossman, Brian Carrington, Heath Scott, and Stuart Dewitt are the head coaches. There are six teams, the Rangers, Red Sox, Yankees, Mariners, Athletics, and Giants. The teams will be competing against each other all summer at the 1-mile baseball fields.
Benito and Paigelyn Ramirez got married on June 4 at the Chilkat Inlet Retreat. Dana Perreard officiated the ceremony. The couple are high school sweethearts who dated for eight years before finally tying the knot. About 100 guests attended the ceremony, with family and friends flying up from Michigan, Tennessee, North Carolina, Louisiana, Kansas, California, and Oregon. Paigelyn’s bridal party consisted of two of her childhood friends, MaKenna Renfro and Tatum Anglin, her high school best friend, Brenda Paz Torres, her college roommate, Jazmin Raquel, and her best friend, Valeria Alcaraz. Benito’s party consisted of his childhood best friend, Andy Barajas, his youngest brother, Ivan Ramirez Torres, and Paigelyn’s brother, Addison McQuaid. The flower girls were Raina Rowley, Maisie Frost, and Laila Dobbins. Paigelyn’s great aunt Susie Vargas was the couple’s guest of honor. Susie traveled up from Michigan to watch the couple get married. Paigelyn’s grandpa, Ed McQuaid, died in 2020, but she said everyone at the ceremony could feel his presence. The couple plans to take their honeymoon in the winter.
Nolan Wald and Sara, Sal, and Lucia Chapell traveled to Skagway together to attend the annual Pride Month celebration and parade on June 4. The four then watched a show that was headlined by Juneau Drag. “It was a joyful all-ages party celebrating inclusivity and acceptance,” said Sara. Sara said they met up with lots of Haines folks in Skagway, including Susie and Patience McCartney, Amanda Painter, Holly Irwin, and Courtney and Darsie Culbeck. The event was organized by the Skagway Pride Committee, which includes former Haines resident Reba Hylton. Deb Potter, KHNS DJ and Haines board member, was the Emcee of the event.
Bozhi and Daniel Dellinger welcomed their second baby girl, Penelope Jay Dellinger, to the family on June 4 at around two in the morning. Penelope weighed seven pounds and eight ounces. Their older daughter, Parker Rae Dellinger, is one year and nine months old and has now become a big sister.
Caleb Holm, a 2022 Haines High School graduate, was welcomed to William Paterson University’s shooting team on June 6. WPU is located in Wayne, New Jersey. Caleb plans to study computer science.
