Little League leads off on Opening Day scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at the Sawmill Road ball fields at 1 p.m.

The event will include player introductions and a first pitch with games starting at 1:30 p.m. More than 80 children signed up and will be divided into Major and Senior leagues, four teams with players ages 9-12 and two teams with players ages 13-16, respectively.

Following opening day, three games will be held every Wednesday and Friday night. Concessions include hot dogs, pretzels, popcorn, drinks and candy.

The Little League board, made up of Paul Carrington, Brian Elliott, Erica Carrington, Kaitlin Combs and Melissa Ganey is still looking for volunteer umpires and concessions help. Fence banners are still available for businesses who want to help sponsor the league.

“What we really, really need are umpires,” board president Paul Carrington said. “You have to pass a background check to be on the field with the kids and know the basic rules of baseball. It’s mostly calling balls and strikes.”

They also need volunteers to help keep score and prep the field.
