The Serenade of the Seas will dock at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 12—the first large cruise ship to visit town since Sept. 18, 2019.
It’s the first large ship to dock in nearly three years, Steven Auch told the assembly at its regular meeting Tuesday. The ship, which will make the most visits to town this summer, also marks the return of Royal Caribbean, a brand that formerly docked in Haines regularly in the early 2000s.
“At 5:30pm there will be a welcoming ceremony for the ship,” Auch said. “Everyone is invited to come down to the PC Dock for this ceremony, however keep in mind parking directly around the PC dock will be limited, so I would recommend everyone park in the fancy new harbor parking lot and walk to the PC dock.”
Auch anticipates more cruise ship passengers visiting this summer than in the past 20 years.
