Takshanuk Watershed Council greatly appreciates the individuals who took time out of their busy weekend schedules to attend this year’s Living with Bears presentation.
A huge thank you to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s Carl Koch for his bear spray and electric fence demonstration and the Great Bear Foundation for supporting the event and providing educational materials. We are extremely grateful and appreciative of the Wind River Bear Institute’s Nils Pedersen and his team of dogs for making the long trek from Fairbanks to educate our community about “bear shepherding”. Thank you Travis Russell and Haines Borough Police Department for participating in the workshop and supporting the effort to reduce negative bear encounters in our community and Alaska State Trooper Colin Nemec for his support and participation. Thank you Haines Borough Public Library for lending tables and tents and Lutak Lumber for lending a bear-proof garbage can to display at the event. If you missed the Living with Bears presentation and would like to learn more check out SE Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game’s website for educational videos. If you have fruit trees or want to volunteer with our fruit gleaning program this year sign up by filling out this google form: www.tinyurl.com/fruitbears.
